Author's Comment:

Ah... Squall and Quistis. I always enjoyed the relationship between these two characters. I don't know about you, but I find the awkwardness of the student/teacher relationship to be quite entertaining. I look forward to expanding on this relationship, and reveal more about the bonds and barriers between these two characters, trekking where the game would not.

Squall tried not to notice the glances and whispers of the students passing by, as Quistis followed him from the infirmary. Whether it had to do with the bandage around his head, or the fact that a student was -- god forbid -- consorting with an instructor, he could care less. Instead, he focused on the sounds of the birds chirping; the purple runner carpet; the students busily studying in the courtyard to his left; the cool breeze blowing through the open window, despite the fact that the sun was out shining brighter than ever. Feels like it might get cold out, later.

(Like in your dream?)

A coolness that penetrates your skin, gripping your very sinew. It robs you of your strength as it pulls you further away from... From what?

His mind wandered to the girl he saw in the window. How did she know his name? Why was she so familiar? Quistis derailed Squall's train of thought.

"Something on your mind?"

Squall looked agitatedly at her. They both spoke at the same time: "Not really."

At this, Quistis began to giggle. Squall was far from in the mood for being laughed at. "What's so funny?" Squall asked, trying to sound harsh or cold, but ending up with only a broken voice.

"Funny? No, it's nothing like that. I'm just happy that I'm beginning to understand my student a little. That's all."

Offended by this, Squall averted his gaze. "I'm more complex than you think."

Quistis stopped giggling. In fact, she stopped walking, entirely. "Then tell me," she said, turning towards Squall, drawing his eyes. "Tell me more about yourself."

Doesn't she have anything better to do? "It's none of your --"

"Business?" Quistis cut him off. She began to laugh again, walking past him.

Squall stood alone, left to his thoughts. Bells began to ring from somewhere above. They played Balamb Garden's Anthem, letting everyone know, in their own little language, that homeroom was starting.
