Synopsis
Squall wakes up, dazed and confused. He remembers little about the fight, and his spirits are dampened by something that he cannot quite place. As if something looms in the near future. Some ominous force. The field exam for SeeD candidates approaches. Squall must pass a dangerous test before he can participate. He must face a demon from the fire, and summon a ghost from his past. One that is both familiar, and worrisome.

One
Squall awakens from his battle with Seifer. He finds himself in the infirmary, with the motherly Dr. Kadowaki tending his wounds. She calls his teacher Quistis, as Squall encounters a woman whom he recognizes, yet does not remember.
Two
Squall and Quistis walk to class together. Quistis probes at Squall, trying to get him to open up. We get a glimpse of Squall's lone wolf personality.
Three
In Class, Quistis announces the field exam, later that day. She informs Squall he must complete the final test, held in "The Fire Cavern," to participate. Squall finds a paper titled "Dear Lifelong Friends."
Four
Squall reads the letter from Quistis' desk, and is thrown off guard as a new student, Selfie, accidentally bumps into him. She asks him for a tour, and to his surprise, he consents.
Five
Squall shows Selfie the directory in Balamb Garden's front hall. After giving her an overview, he heads to meet Quistis, at the front gate.
Six
Squall meets with Quistis at the gate. She reminds squall to be ready to summon his Guardian Force. The two walk towards the Fire Cavern, as Squall reminisces about the first time he can remember summoning his GF: Shiva. They proceed into the cavern.
Seven
Squall and Quistis make their way through the cavern, defeating enemies as they come up. Squall summons Shiva to defeat a bomb. It leaves him feeling uneasy, but he shrugs it off. They approach the final area of the cavern, and prepare for battle.
Eight
A fierce battle between Ifrit, and the "puny mortals" take place. They discover that Shiva seems to be the only force that can sedate Ifrit. Squall gathers the energy to summon, while Quistis holds him off.
