It all started in October of 1999. I had just received a bunch of birthday money, and my grandmother took me to Walmart to buy a game. Having never played an RPG before, and not knowing much about Final Fantasy (except for the enigmatic, yet overwhelmingly positive buzz that surrounding it between the students at school), I was hard pressed to fork over the 80 bucks to pick up a copy of Final Fantasy 8. Nonetheless, I did end up buying it, and it was probably one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. Not only did it get me into RPGs, and reinvigorate my love of video games, and not only did it end up as my favorite game of all time, but it actually started a chain of events that led to me meeting the love of my life, Sammi... But that's another story.
This is about FF8. Basically, as you can imagine, I fell in love with the game instantly. I couldn't put down the controller. I was a hardcore FF8 fan (I guess I still am).
(On a side note, I have a theory of PSOne FF games... Whichever of the three games (FF7, FF8, and FF9) you play first, almost always ends up being your favorite. Of course there are always exceptions, but I believe this is the majority rule. It also explains why so few people like FF9 the best, and so many people like FF7.)
... Okay, back on track. While playing FF8, I kept thinking (from the moment I pushed my first "Confirm") how much it would make a great novel. I waited years for something to be written, but nothing ever came along. I never would have guessed it would be me who ended up writing it, but as Gandhi once said, "be the change you want to see in the world."
